Armed Forces Medley through the Years

To honor fallen veterans of our own communities, I hope you will join me in listening to the Armed Forces Medley from one or more of the past five years since my favorite old veteran faded into glory.  I’m sure there’s a big war story room where old veterans go to tell their stories until they become true. Or at least they tell them well enough they seem to be true.

(Don’t worry… the medleys get shorter and shorter for some reason. I’ve annotated the length in parenthesis, to assist you in choosing.  2015 is best one, I believe.)

THIS DAY IN HISTORY – Nobel laureate Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn returns to Russia after exile – 1994

Via History.com

Two decades after being expelled from the USSR, Nobel laureate Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn returns to Russia in an emotional homecoming.

In 1945, Solzhenitsyn was sentenced to eight years of hard labor for criticizing Stalin in a letter to a friend. His prison experiences formed the basis for One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich, his famous first novel. In 1970, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in literature and began work on The Gulag Archipelago, his vast history of the Soviet totalitarian system, from Lenin’s ascension to the official Soviet denunciation of Stalin.

QUOTES OF THE DAY

In war, truth is the first casualty.

~Aeschylus

Any excuse will serve a tyrant.

~Aesop

What is absurd and monstrous about war is that men who have no personal quarrel should be trained to murder one another in cold blood.

~Aldous Huxley

Violence can only be concealed by a lie, and the lie can only be maintained by violence.

~Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn

War is the unfolding of miscalculations.

~Barbara Tuchman

Those who give up essential liberties for temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.

Chaos of Weather Record Heat Wave Coming – Fraud of Linear Predictions

Guest Post by Martin Armstrong

This weekend the forecasts are calling for a blistering, dangerous heat wave which is poised to scorch the southeastern U.S. over the Memorial Day weekend. I warned that our computer was showing a sharp increase in volatility in the weather. The winters would spike to new record lows and then the summers would spike to scorching highs. Once again, this is not my personal opinion. If you simply input the data this is what comes up – patterns.

The Cloud War

Guest Post by The Zman

After the Mueller report was released, the conventional wisdom was that, after a period of mourning by the crazies on the Left, the whole matter would be forgotten. The Russian collusion nonsense had served its purpose and now it was time to move onto figuring out who would replace Trump. The Democrats have a massive field of candidates for their nomination. This reflects the fractured nature of their coalition, so the focus would shift to sorting out how best to unify the party around a nominee.

Tariffs on China Do Not Solve Lack of U.S. Competitiveness

Guest Post by Tom Luongo

I’ve been making arguments for months that Donald Trump’s trade war with China is the height of stupidity. While Trump has the power to do what he’s been doing — sanctioning actors and applying tariffs — some power is best left not used.

The simple fact is that America is uncompetitive. This is at a deep and structural level. It’s at an education level. And this is something Trump’s trade team and his adherents refuse to admit.

When it comes to manufacturing and assembly, U.S. workers are not worth the money they are paid. Period.

Don’t take my word for it. Take Tim Cook’s. In an eye-opening interview from the end of 2017 Cook explains the basic problem with the U.S.

FRAGILE LIVES, SHATTERED DREAMS

When we were young the future was so bright
The old neighborhood was so alive
And every kid on the whole damn street
Was gonna make it big and not be beat

Now the neighborhood’s cracked and torn
The kids are grown up but their lives are worn
How can one little street
Swallow so many lives?

Chances thrown
Nothing’s free
Longing for what used to be
Still it’s hard
Hard to see
Fragile lives, shattered dreams
Go!

Jamie had a chance, well she really did
Instead she dropped out and had a couple of kids
Mark still lives at home ’cause he’s got no job
He just plays guitar and smokes a lot of pot

Jay committed suicide
Brandon OD’d and died
What the hell is going on
The cruelest dream, reality

Chances thrown
Nothing’s free
Longing for what used to be
Still it’s hard
Hard to see
Fragile lives, shattered dreams
Go!

Chances thrown
Nothing’s free
Longing for what used to be
Still it’s hard
Hard to see
Fragile lives, shattered dreams

NBA To Assign ‘Adversity Score’ To Pudgy White Guys Who Want To Play Professional Basketball

Via The Babylon Bee

U.S.—The NBA announced Friday that for the upcoming basketball season, the league will be assigning an “adversity score” to overweight white dudes to help more of them get signed with professional basketball teams.

The score will take into account many environmental and biological factors, like the fact that they’re white guys who can’t jump and get winded while walking up a small flight of stairs. It will also take into account the fact that they don’t know anything about the fundamentals of the game and tend to shout things like “I’m open! Hey, I’m open!” even when they’re clearly not open. Finally, white dudes who scarf down whole bags of Cheetos daily, drink a six-pack of beer every night, and haven’t exercised in years will receive a “considerable boost” from the new weighted point system.

How You Can Be 100% Certain That QAnon Is Bullshit

Guest Post by Caitlin Johnstone

President Trump has yet again advanced an evil longstanding agenda of America’s depraved intelligence and defense agencies, so as usual the QAnon cult is out in force telling everyone not to worry because this is all part of the plan. Ever since WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange was slammed by Trump’s Justice Department with a mountain of espionage charges carrying a possible sentence of 175 years in prison, QAnon acolytes have been showing up in my social media mentions with screenshots of a new post from the mysterious 8chan anon assuring us all that Assange is actually being protected by Trump.

The post reads in the typical QAnon cryptic word salad style that its adherents often annoyingly imitate when normal people try to engage them in an adult conversation:

“Under protection.
Threat is real.
Key to DNC ‘source’ ‘hack’ ‘187’.
Q”

I find this subject very tedious, and my regular readers aren’t generally the types to fall for this sort of toxic propaganda construct, but I’m putting this information out there anyway as a public service since many people are being deluded by it.

Latest Gillette Ad Features Dad Teaching Transgender Son To Shave For The First Time

Via ZeroHedge

Months after releasing an ad shaming all men for being ‘toxic’ pigs (while curiously cutting out a scene from the original ad featuring a booty-grabbing fake rap video), Gillette wants female-to-male trans individuals to know that once those hormones kick in, they’ve got your shaving needs covered.

Their new advertisement features the moment a loving dad teaches his transgender son, Samson Brown, how to shave for the first time, according to Gaystar News.

Facebook Bans CrossFit Group For Advocating Low-Carb, High-Fat Diets

Authored by Timothy Meads via Townhall.com,

As conservatives warn of the dangers of Silicon Valley’s left-wing monopoly on political speech, one fitness and self-improvement company has jumped into the fray to discuss free speech on social media.

Crossfit, the high-intensity gym program, released a statement this past Thursday slamming Facebook for the unexplained removal of its content as well the company’s lack of self-responsibility as the “de facto authority over the public square, arbitrating a worldwide exchange of information as well as overseeing the security of the individuals and communities who entrust their ideas, work, and private data to this platform.”
