Never try to season a cast iron pan with “vegetable oil” It doesn’t season the pan, but coats it with a gooey varnish that you can’t get off without an electrolysis tank. Use unhydrogenated lard or bacon grease.
Tallow is best.

DIY mayhem by the clueless.
Every house I’ve owned, or apartment I rented in my yute
had the most incoherent people try to do home repair.
The scariest thing I’ve found is DIY electrical that was potentialy fatal.
I had a friend who thought himself “handy around the house” who
decided to help me speed things up while I went to Home Depo for
things I needed for my kitchen remodel. He was instucted to do a simple demo
of a closet wall. Instead he used my Super Sawsall to cut into another wall
where the built in ovens were going. It was a wall with a bunch of Romex in it.
Good thing Sawsalls are grounded and the exterior housing grips are rubber…..
Guilty as charged and it was for a client!
