My SIL’s mother and I were talking about this the other day. Our grandson does the same thing when he visits the in-laws….he bypasses Grandma and heads straight for Pap-pap i.e. Grandpa.

In my experience, it depends on whether they want to play (grandpa) or want to be comforted (grandma).
Besides everything else I loved about my (maternal) grandfather … he was an automobile mechanic his whole life — started working at Chevrolet in Alberta when he was 15 … so I got to learn a lot from him.
