Howdy y’all

Greetings most finest and noblest of countrymen. I offered to offer my offering of off-putting remarks from hither and yon in this fair land and in Admin’s great judgment and/or moment of weakness he/she/it/they/them said yes.

In all seriousness though I have appreciated Admin’s capacity over the years for equal parts extended – nay wordy – exploration of the minutiae of finance and economics and concise snippets of sarcastic insights into this head scratcher we call humanity. The thing about being a lurker is that it’s low risk. And picking up the vibe that I’m a tad younger and more liberal than the median, I haven’t really wanted to crash anybody’s party uninvited. I came more for the Occupy Wall Street commentary than caring about Donald Trump 11-d chess or whatever it’s up to.

ghouls and ghosts Sega game
How would Oliver Anthony describe this video game thrown in the wash? An old soul livin’ in a new Whirlpool.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m as sarcastic and curmudgeonly as anybody. Age is just a number, and generational differences get exaggerated by researchers who have to sensationalize everything to get funding. But there is something captivating about cycles and turnings and so forth, something real and authentic about living through shared experiences at a moment in time that can’t be recreated or felt in the same way by anyone before or after. And so I’m hoping to add my voice to our glorious efforts of equal parts bemusement and truth seeking. You know, so long as the internets keep working and all that.

I tend to be more interested in good questions than resolved answers, in being curious about why other people think things than in promoting a particular thought to think. A couple of perspectives I will try to hone and explore over time are captured really well by something that Ben Thompson wrote about a decade ago in the early days of starting a new tech venture blog called Stratechery:

But there’s a second, more fundamental issue at play as well: the absence of friction in searching for, purchasing, downloading, and installing apps…

…Friction was the foundation of sustainability, and now friction is gone…

…The Internet has removed the friction of time and place, and I am benefitting greatly.

Of course it cuts the other way; I grew up in the Midwest, which means this isn’t my first exposure to the intersection of work and geographic independence. Usually it’s the jobs that move, while the workers are left behind.

Friction was the foundation of our job market, and now friction is gone.

This blog will soon return to the more concrete world of high-tech strategy, value chains, and app store economics, but underlying everything is the seismic change that is only just beginning: if there is a single phrase that describes the effect of the Internet, it is the elimination of friction.

With the loss of friction, there is necessarily the loss of everything built on friction, including value, privacy, and livelihoods. And that’s only three examples! The Internet is pulling out the foundations of nearly every institution and social more that our society is built upon…

If you had the attention span to get to that last sentence, it’s where we’re at. Sure Thompson was talking about value chains in tech, a much different area of political economy than TBP typically covers. But that’s where this turning is unique, where the variables are jumbled in ways that don’t have neat historical precedent. The foundations of nearly every institution and social norm have crumbled simultaneously. It’s all fake. All of it. Show me an administrator making a quarter million dollars a year and I’ll show you somebody whose skill set is in self-advocacy groveling at the feet of a central planner, not somebody whose labor produces meaningful value for the purported ‘customers’ of the organization, never mind society at large.

Authenticity is the currency of millennials because our elders across every part of the power structure have modeled everything else but that. It’s not one or two convenient, evil villains. It’s an entire generation of micromanaging busybodies across every federal agency, every big bank, every big hospital chain, every big university, every big media company, etc. The Social Security Administration publishes one of the best public data sets we have on wage inequality. In the most recent year available, 4 million workers earned more than $250,000. Sure, a tiny handful of them are highly talented musicians, actors, athletes, anesthesiologists, etc., at the top of their game. The vast majority, though, have no defensible reason to make notably more money than anybody else. They’re simply greedy, self-centered careerists who have entrenched a system, in POSIWID fashion, whose only real purpose is the ever growing concentration of wealth and power for connected insiders.

This realization that trust is crumbling is confusing and scary if you think that what we have right now is a sovereign nation-state governed by responsible stewards of fairness and justice and human rights. That crumbling would be quite disconcerting indeed. On the other hand, it’s exciting if one is able to accept the deeply depressing truth that every component of that sentiment is lacking. We aren’t a nation of leaders governed by Americans. We’re a nation of mercenaries in the employ of, well, it doesn’t even really matter that much.

And that’s perhaps the most rebellious component of my point. Half a century ago it might have mattered if there had been some way for Boomers collectively to organize at scale against the globalists that had overpowered elected governance and Constitutional rule. But there wasn’t precisely because the massive benefits of centralization possessed by the central planners were massive. That’s the main point that’s missed about the 20th century – we scaled larger and faster than humanity has ever done. There is simply no analog, in government or private sector activity, prior to the 20th century to the corporate pooling of human capital that happened in global governance during the 20th century. I do mean global and will be interested in putting together a bit of a primer or guide over time on the visible parts of that. I think it helps make so much sense of otherwise unfathomable and disjointed things that are said and done by individual, uh, ‘leaders’.

But.

We are at an inflection point. Central planning has run its course. To state my proposition more formally, the marginal utility of scale has turned negative. The central planners are having trouble even managing what they’ve got, never mind trying to grow bigger still. The most obvious criticism of my perspective is that I’m too optimistic. It’s a valid point. This turning might end in catastrophe, some combo of the Hunger Games and, well, simply hunger.

But.

I think the power structure has hit the proverbial wall. While sure lots has been accomplished with the bank bailouts and COVID response and so forth, they haven’t been able to go full totalitarian. The friction they’ve removed through centralized tools has turned out to require the consent of the masses after all. They can’t turn off the internet, or electricity, or anything else, because the credentialed class upon which they depend to keep the masses in check depend upon those same systems, too. Yet every time they censor somebody or force some company to take some action against a customer, they reveal how weak their position has become. They have little credibility left, and thus little persuasive power. It’s not a left/right thing or Dem/Rep or young/old or any other identity politics wedge issue. They had 6+ decades to stamp out the American spirit, and they thought that controlling large institutions (particularly the federal government, corporate media, education, and healthcare) was the way to do it. But instead, they’ve managed to weaken the very institutions upon which they depend to keep Americans in service to global coordination. After all, if they could do it without us, they’d just leave us alone. You know, to rot in the awful backwater of a pitiful North America unable to participate in the wonderful socialist utopia of EuroChinaStan.

national congress Chinese communist party
Why don’t people who hate America so much simply move to this diverse, equitable, inclusive utopia?

How things resolve none of us know. Truly none of us, because this is an unprecedented confluence of events. But as long as the internet is still going, I think there’s a decent chance the excesses of central planning unwind in a way that is more like an anti-climactic dissolving away rather than some grand existential cataclysm. No analogy is perfect, but more like Leipzig in 1989 than Bavaria in 1933. The Hunger Games is commentary, perhaps the zeitgeist for Millennials if there can be one for a generation, on the system we have now, not on what the turning will bring.

It’s almost like there’s been a concerted effort to demoralize folks, to browbeat people into believing that a horrific outcome is the only possible outcome, because that gets people to participate in avoiding the reality that today we are an occupied country. The risk isn’t in the future changing markedly from the present, but rather in the future not changing. I’m not here to bash people voting for Donald Trump; I understand that motivation. I’m just offering a perspective that democracy – meaning our genuine federal republic, not the globalist facade of Our Democracy – isn’t what Important People do on Election Day. It’s what ordinary citizens do all the other days. Millions of genuine individual choices, not decrees by a handful of VIPs in DC or NY or wherever, will decide how this turning plays out.

That’s a solid perspective! Thanks for the effort. I will offer one thought on your commentary on income: there is a distinction between salaries or income doled out by institutional powers and large corporations that have been favored by institutional powers, vs. income realized through entrepreneurial pursuits, value creation and genuine investment (as opposed to the bastardization of that last word by institutional powers). The former is detestable and shameful when resources are wasted on evil or useless people. The latter is virtuous and should be upheld as a paragon of economic freedom and unlimited possibility.

That will all change when the currency is reset and revalued. Most of this criminality would not be possible without the over supply of easy money from joo money magick. Humans are being blended into a non-specific race for the future. Slaves will have little use for institutions of higher learning. Commerce will only be about the ruling /pirate class. In other words, money will only belong to THEM. The destruction of institutions is by design and not a miscalculation.

I suppose the “over supply” is why Bongino mentioned someone’s projection the national debt would reach 50 trillion by 2034. But who pays attention to “national debt” anyway?

My projection is the Trump administration like all the others will send word of encouragement to the sheeple that his boys have reduced spending here , there and everywhere but the added spending will dwarf the “savings” by a long shot and of course the boys won’t mention voluntarily all the crap they are spending on.

People be freaking about bidennomics, yep, just the name Biden is a POS without the financial hardships (hardships for some but not all). Wait for trumpnomics. Yeah, yeah, yeah, the Trumpster will initiate all kinds of EOs stopping some bidenomics lunacy while actively introducing his on brand of economic lunacy so that you ain’t seen nothing yet!

I suppose it’s time to “cash out” for the gold instead of the paper but has anyone heard the Trumpster talk about gold? Perhaps and only asking.

If the AI can do math?

The entire whole-lotta-cost is doomed.

The math always reveals the choke point between claims of gassing 1,000 chews per hour, and the capacity of the available crematory muffles to process that thousand in 58 hours.

1,000 bodies times 1.5 hours per for cremation = 1,500 total hours.
1,500 total hours divided by 26?
58 hours total needed.

And this is just the Auschwitz claims.

Please note, up to the late 80s, the plaque at Auschwitz claimed 4.million jews were murdered there.
After the fall of the Soviet, records were reviewed and that number was reduced, BY THREE MILLION, to the current allegation that 1.1 jews were gassed.

The most astonishing fact here?
The reduction of three million alleged deaths had absolutely no effect on the 6 millions bullshit.

The 6,000,000 figure also includes the masses of people lined up and machine gunned into mass graves. Doesn’t take much time or effort.
I knew a doctor who was a POW. The Germans took a huge number of American POW’s from their camp and told them to start digging a monstrous hole. They assumed they were all going to be killed. When they were finished, the Germans brought in a huge number of Soviet prisoners and machine gunned them all in to this mass grave. He said the Germans dumped lime over the bodies and the American POW’s were then ordered to fill it in.

Can you explain the lime claim and make it make sense?

That’s one of those bizarre details that appear in movies but in reality have the exact opposite effect. Lime and quicklime delays the decomposition of remains, not accelerate the process.

You know that horrors occur during war, they happen in times of peace, but the claims that a specific number were killed and disposed of in a certain way ought to be able to be verified by the remains, the math, and the capabilities of the methods used.

If the numbers aren’t what they said they were doesn’t make the event any less of a crime, but it calls into question the veracity of those who promote a specific narrative for certain ends.

When you tell people that anything may not be questioned, you should take that as tacit admission that they aren’t being forthright no matter what the topic is.

I don’t understand how any reasonable and honest person could ever oppose it.

Hey Doug… I’ve got a whale of a tale (studying Jonah out here in Podunk) about a lost package I’m going to write down once I get all those tomatoes laying on the counter into jars and into a pressure cooker later this morning.

I wanted to give you the gist of it because in the midst of the anguish over having lost a treasured memory album of an old school friend’s father by entrusting it to the USPS for delivery as “media mail” to mail the 75 miles for return rather than using a half tank of gasoline to drive it there, insuring it for $100 to hedge my bet and make the postal workers care a bit more, I assumed.

The package, mailed two weeks before Mother’s Day– the same day I sent my DIL’s mother’s day package via priority mail to Oklahoma (arrived two days after Mother’s Day)–showed up in my old friend’s post office box 75 miles south of me last Tuesday, after languishing for over four weeks in the US Post Office Processing Plant in Jackson, Mississippi, where it ended up after being sent from my local post office to St. Louis to be sorted and distributed.

So, the gist of it is that every package, letter and even notecard are collected in huge “processing plants” where they get sorted into “parcels” and loaded onto “vessels” for “transit” to final destination.

I got notified every three days for several weeks that my package was out for final delivery. I could not make an inquiry with my insurance receipt number because the package was in Jackson, Mississippi and had been put into a parcel for final delivery.

I finally got hold of a real postmaster who knew who to call.

It took a miracle. And, we are back to Jonah.

haha, youve never used the Greek Post then, have you?
a christmas card mailed about 2/3 of the way across the country (total distance maybe 400 miles) , posted (directly dropped off at the post office as i had to buy the stamps at the same time) around the 15th of december..
arrived in APRIL.
more broadly any bills sent by mail invariably are delivered a couple of months later (certainly past deadlines), and anywhere from 10-20% of all mail simply gets lost. Anything you send you send registered if it matters even a little bit.
(christmas cards just dont seem to be in the spirit of things if you send them registered but i considered it!)
amusingly mail to/from abroad seems to get in a different queue early on. out of the same batch of cards, a card send to somewhere else up in europe only took about 2 weeks, and a card sent to someone in the states likewise was delivered in about 2 weeks!

in contrast, the single most awesome postal service ive ever seen is the swiss post.

I’ve come to view it as concentric circles (rings), of power. Like the nucleus of a cell. Or even according to Orwell’s revelation: The nucleus / inner party will function to preserve itself and the outer party and proles are expanded, utilized, and cannibalized as necessary – and at the whim of the nucleus / inner party.

As you say, “genuine individual choices” can change outcomes but the circles have become increasingly codependent, especially in modernity. The inner party sets policy and the rest, as they say, is history. The outer party depends upon the inner party for survival and it’s hard to convince the proles of something they can’t, or won’t, see.

History seems to manifest in inevitable, cyclical waves. And, yet, the inner party has survived generations – even long before 1913.

Therefore, the proles must download new “software”, so to speak, from outside the system. Pardon the cliches, but it’s a numbers game and a race against time.

Just typing out loud. Probally for my next piece

Found it…

“Show me an administrator making a quarter million dollars a year and I’ll show you somebody whose skill set is in self-advocacy groveling at the feet of a central planner, not somebody whose labor produces meaningful value for the purported ‘customers’ of the organization, never mind society at large.”

I dunno how long you’ve lurked but I’ve been around here off and on for 12 to 15 years depending if you count the years I read here occasionally and didn’t ever reply even anonymously.

I’ve seen any number of administrators making six figures in my former career as military industrial complex system component* and they ranged from incompetent yes-men to arrogant assholes to sycophantic morons whose main talent was reciting an elevator speech about efficiency and productivity to financial analysts hired in boardrooms overlooking the Potomac River facing Capitol Hill where I was hired as a financial analyst because I just happened to know someone who knew someone who figured I could be a financial analyst. So, for a while I was one.

In POSTIWID theory, since the purpose is what it does, system components may actually observe and affect other components within their particular box on the organizational chart but impact upon either purpose or end result is prohibited by Systems Theory.

Hopefully, my plans to be canning tomatoes in a couple hours so I can sit and write about the problem with Systems and Systems Theory are the damned components.

But, the best laid plans of mice, men and monikers often go awry.

What was the original stated purpose of “the system “but to actually aid the components ( if by component you are referring to that most unpredictable component , the human component )?Which is more important ? Its like saying communism would work if only every body would just get in line with it . ((” the world would work perfectly to my specifications if only everyone would exactly do as I want them to “?) Actually its a lot like that in this case . components within engineering systems are one thing , components within social engineering systems are quite another . maybe you are one of those people that work in government with a moderately leftist worldview who is ” all about the process “? Maybe you are, maybe you aren’t ,either way fuck the process and fuck the social engineering systems designed to ” manage ” humanity like so many components for its own purposes. It’s almost like there’s been a concerted effort to demoralize folks, to browbeat people into believing that a horrific outcome is the only possible outcome, because that gets people to participate in avoiding the reality that today we are an occupied country.”

Delicious phrasing. The information war and demoralization project is also in place to make humanity as a whole throw up their hands ( after a major war ) and say :

Big Mike, Great question and concerns. We need an immediate and massive peace movement in this country. Vietnam built up slowly and everyone knew someone whose life was ended or messed up by it. The antiwar movements had time to grow especially on college campuses because of the draft.
The buildup toward nuclear war is happening NOW (as you said), but few can see it because there is no draft and the body bags aren’t coming back yet. No one yet knows anyone affected by war with Russia. By the time people see the danger, the draft, destruction and body bags, it will be too late. Nuclear war has that potential all-or-nothing quality that sheeple without foresight cannot recognize.

“I tend to be more interested in good questions than resolved answers, in being curious about why other people think things than in promoting a particular thought to think.”

I stopped reading the article after that statement. To me, that is the crux of the problem of society. We have been conditioned, since we were younglings, to wonder why others do/act/think the way they do rather than why we, ourselves, do/act/think the way we do. Why worry about the other? Is there an other to begin with?

That thought in itself begs the question, who is it that thinks?

Isaiah 55:8 Context

5Behold, thou shalt call a nation that thou knowest not, and nations that knew not thee shall run unto thee because of the LORD thy God, and for the Holy One of Israel; for he hath glorified thee. 6Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: 7Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. 8For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. 9For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. 10For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: 11So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thingwhereto I sent it.

I enjoyed you thought provoking essay the devolution of the society due chiefly to what your term the “absence of friction”. I think the corporate world call this “rolling up” everything under one “Umbrella”, nevertheless, I think it’s a wrong to assume friction somehow negates socioeconomic erosion. Nay, the ” rolling up” or forcing us all to work, socialize, consume and exist under one centralized ” Umbrella ” has created the friction that is burning us out and up and this friction is completely demoralizing and will eventually turn anyone with the capacity for reason and critical thinking into a full blown cynic. Give it time.

As a cynical ” person of age” who has seen the end of a mostly civilized era were people laughed, talked and entertained themselves in a manner that did not involved filth, debauchery and degradation come to an abrupt end beginning in the 70’s, I have an idea just were this perpetual friction of demoralizing competition for wealth, attention, power and place leads…and it has happened many times before. It’s just where the nature of We the Fallen always leads.

Demoralization is the process whereby We the Fallen afflict our progressively broken dreams and expectations upon our fellow humans.
We all subconsciously pine for the life in the Garden, but build for ourselves an existence carved out of debt, servitude and degradation resulting in no way home, but though fire and ash; the path we also subconsciously choose to wipe away the demoralizing trap our ancestors built for us, which we now pass on to our offspring, who seem to be the most demoralized of all. This is evidenced by the brutality with which the young now mark, pierce and generally abuse their flesh and spirit with seen and unseen mutilations. The Holy scriptures command us to treat our bodies as the very temples of Christ, but We the “Free” seek to assert our independence from Holy Spirit and earthly confines by totally destroying all the gifts of God, material, spiritual and flesh, even though we subconsciously long for the Garden and freedom from the sickness of death which is sin.

We are all Children of God acting out in defiance against our Father’s wish for us to rebuild the Garden of our own volition and our insatiable thirst for power, glory, pleasure and wealth and so we incessantly destroy what we ourselves have built, subconsciously hoping to come out the other side with the incorruptible will to rebuild the Garden, as God intended.

“There is no antidote, he writes, against the opium of time. The winter sun shows how soon the light fades from the ash, how soon night enfolds us. Hour upon hour is added to the sum. Time itself grows old. Pyramids, arches and obelisks are melting pillars of snow. Not even those who have found a place amidst the heavenly constellations have perpetuated their names: Nimrod is lost in Orion, and Osiris in the Dog Star. Indeed, old families last not three oaks. To set one’s name to a work gives no one a title to be remembered, for who knows how many of the best of men have gone without a trace? The iniquity of oblivion blindly scatters her poppyseed and when wretchedness falls upon us one summer’s day like snow, all we wish for is to be forgotten.”

The friction concept is very interesting and I think it applies to manufacturing as well. For example, most of the large stable manufacturing companies of my youth are now gone, and everything is now being made by cheap, fly-by-night companies in China.

Just go search for products on Amazon and you will see a thousand companies with thrown together names ( most are just amalgamations of a bunch of consonants that don’t even make sense). Check back in a few months and many of those companies won’t exist anymore because it is so easy to relocate sweatshop based manufacturing operations to other cheaper locations.

As situation continues to unravel, I think we will see a shift back to tariffs and protectionist measures as it is in essence, the legislated friction needed to help rebuild communities and infrastructure so as to make them functional again.

I don’t think the current situation is a novel as the author seems to believe. I don’t believe the administrative elite will be rational and see their own useful idiocy as having an expiration date. “Behavioral economics began as a distinct field of study in the 1970s and ’80s”. Why? Because Americans long protected and bred by imperially daddy government are not rational, or have a vested dependency in keeping the system going because they can’t function in a meritocracy or apply reason independently. They are dependent on the continued function of the system.

I think the author greatly underestimates the specialized excellence of the ultimate doers honed by more than two millennia of practice. The average person is too stupid, really to much a herd animal of great domestication, and vis-a-vis the evolutionary design intelligence of ye ole cabal is too overwhelming for such critters and the masses everywhere. It’s not like the ancient practitioners have not pondered an exit strategy on this invasion cycle, and what they want to exit is the White man’s capacity to build alternative civilizations and empires. Call him Esau to justify his subjugation. Call him Amalek to justify his genocide.

If it is sufficiently convenient to call Whitey Amelak, that’s what he is to them.

The six degrees of scriptural separation make it all so kosher ‘n sheet.

“The war against Amalek can be interpreted as a war against the ‘Amalekite culture’, characterized by harming the weak and lacking basic morality (1 Samuel 30:11-15).”

“Throughout the generations, religious Jewish authorities have elaborated on the commandment to annihilate Amalek, and Maimonides (Rambam) limited it saying one must first offer peace to the Amalekites, and engage in total war only should they refuse. Beyond legal elaborations, the commandment to annihilate Amalek lost its relevance due to the fact no people affiliate themselves with the ancient tribe today.

“Nevertheless, in rabbinic literature, the name “Amalek” has become synonymous with any enemy of the Jewish people, for example, when they decreed that the enemies of Israel are the reason for the world’s imperfection.”

Oh, the sin you have, child. Oh, the psychosis you have, child.

““Humans need demons. They project the existing evil within themselves — both individually and socially — onto the demon. Culturally, ‘Amalek’ can be interpreted as the alter ego of the people, a reflection of the foreigner and the other — whom he wishes to eradicate from within himself,” she concludes.”
