SUNDAY MORNING CLASSICS ON TBP

A collaboration of: “The Classic Music Mafia”
Anthony Aaron, and Steve C.

Steve C / Classic Music Mafia: Here is the image depicting “The Classic Music Gangsters,” a whimsical and imaginative group of classical musicians with a playful gangster twist. The scene is set in an old-world music hall with rich, vintage decor, where the musicians are performing in stylish 1920s-era gangster attire. The atmosphere is mysterious yet sophisticated, capturing the unique blend of classical music and a lighthearted gangster theme. – aka.attrition

Every Sunday morning we present selections for our TBP family to enjoy.

We present symphonies, ensembles, quartets, octets, etc.

Not all of our music is strictly ‘classical’. We may stray a little, but we strive to make all of our selections ‘classy’.

We offer tips on proper ‘symphony etiquette’ and even some selections that are a bit light-hearted and fun aimed at a younger audience. Those pieces will be so designated, and might be a good way to introduce kids to a world of music that they might not have been exposed to or think of as old and ‘stuffy’.

A full symphony will run as long as it will. We don’t want to cut a symphony short. However, we also include some shorter pieces that we try to keep under fifteen minutes in length. You can sample each and hopefully find one or more that pleases you.

We hope that you enjoy our Sunday selections.

Anthony Aaron

Johann Sebastian Bach (born March 21 [March 31, New Style], 1685, Eisenach, Thuringia, Ernestine Saxon Duchies [Germany]—died July 28, 1750, Leipzig) composer of the Baroque era, the most celebrated member of a large family of north German musicians. Although he was admired by his contemporaries primarily as an outstanding harpsichordist, organist, and expert on organ building, Bach is now generally regarded as one of the greatest composers of all time and is celebrated as the creator of the Brandenburg Concertos, The Well-Tempered Clavier, the Mass in B Minor, and numerous other masterpieces of church and instrumental music. Appearing at a propitious moment in the history of music, Bach was able to survey and bring together the principal styles, forms, and national traditions that had developed during preceding generations and, by virtue of his synthesis, enrich them all.

Bach, a dazzling organist and church musician, had to compose all kinds of original pieces for every church service including pieces for choir, organ, harpsichord and orchestra. Since most of his music was written to be performed in a church service only once and then thrown out, very little of his music was published during his lifetime. It was for this reason that Bach composed more music than almost any other composer. However, his musical genius was not recognized until about 100 years after his death.

Here are a selection of videos of not only Bach’s music, but of musical performance and of Bach’s place in even modern music. I hope you find something to value …

Bach – Oboe concerto in D minor BWV 1059R

A work by Bach presumably unknown to many – for us too – as Bach left behind only a very brief sketch of this concerto, of just nine bars. However, these nine bars do correspond to another piece: the ‘Sinfonia’ of the cantata Geist und Seele wird verwirret (BWV 35). And that’s where this reconstruction – recorded here for All of Bach with oboist Rodrigo López Paz – finds its basis. For the middle movement we have opted for the famous Adagio from the oboe concerto by Alessandro Marcello, which is an audience favourite nowadays, but was also greatly admired by Bach.

Musicians on pitch | Netherlands Bach Society

The most frequently asked question on our YouTube channel is about pitch: you remark that our text or title mentions the wrong key or ask why we perform pieces a tone too low. Why do recordings on All of Bach often sound a semitone lower (or higher) than when you play this piece at home on the piano, violin or flute? In this background video on pitch, our musicians explain why.

Wieniawski – Legende, Op. 17

Not only a beautiful airy composition, knowing that Wieniawski utilized this to win his future wife’s reluctant parents acceptance of their marriage adds icing on the cake.
