About a week ago, former President Trump floated the idea of canceling taxes on tips at a campaign rally in Las Vegas. By Thursday of last week, Republican lawmakers were delighted by the idea and how it could generate new Trump voters ahead of the November elections.
“This tips thing was genius,” Sen. Kevin Cramer (R-N.D.) said, who was quoted by The Hill, adding, “[Trump] was like, I’d love to tell you it was based on a bunch of research, but it was based on a discussion with a waitress who said, ‘They’re coming after my tips.'”
Cramer said these service workers are “just feeling this assault on their tips” by the Biden administration. This is also happening as Bidenomics inflation crushes the working poor into oblivion.
On Friday, Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY.) wrote on X, “This week Trump suggested we shouldn’t tax tips. He’s right. Next week I’ll be re-introducing @RonPaul’s original Tax Free Tips Act to eliminate taxes on tips!”
Trump’s new push to onboard some of the nearly 16 million people working in the leisure and hospitality comes as President Biden’s polling data continues to slide – and the president with possible dementia continues to stun the nation—literally every week.
What’s happening on the ground and across the country at restaurants and bars are Trump voters informing service industry workers about how voting for the former president will allow for ‘No Tax On Tips.’

Now you can make the argument that we should accelerate the collapse……the faster we crash the sooner the recovery. I actually appreciate the sentiment, its a siren call that sounds good in theory but in practice will just extend the tyranny and make it go exponential. If we can get old Bone Spurs back in for 4 years and avoid WW3 with Russia and China by voting I am all for it. Like I said though, I think its less likely we even get to an election, there will be some excuse (bird flu, Massive Terror attack, WW3, Aliens etc.).

Got some news for you, most waiters and waitresses declare and pay taxes on almost none of their tips now.
I recall from my tax lawyer days years ago that employers were required to include 15% of the pay of the servers as tips … not sure if that’s still the law.
The larger question is why any one group of earners should be exempt from reporting all or part of their income for tax purposes …

Over 30 years ago, when I was still bartending and waiting tables, they started taxing tips. I remember it well. We had to take our total sales for the day and calculate 10% to account for even a low tip. I was paid $2.35/hr and made a ton in tips. The tips have been taxed for a long time.

In most restaurants, that tip money is not only for those serving … but for the rest of the staff … many of whom are in the kitchen washing dishes, busing tables, etc.
I used to tend bar or wait tables during the winter in the ’70s. That tip money gets spread around. Waiters tip the bartender who works the service end of the bar because he doesn’t get tips from bar customers. Waiters tip bussers who go above and beyond in helping waitstaff.
Some enterprising waiters would tip the line cooks in exchange for passing food to them without a dupe so they could work contracts with cash customers. Of course, that’s more a bribe or a cut than a tip.
I am all in on this.
