10,000 California Fast Food Workers McFired Thanks To $20 Minimum Wage: Report

Via ZeroHedge

Nearly 10,000 California fast food workers have been fired thanks to the state’s new $20 minimum wage, according to the California Business and Industrial Alliance (CABIA), which slammed Governor Gavin Newsom for the law which went into effect April 1.

2009 Banksy exhibit, Bristol Museum

“California businesses have been under total attack and total assault for years,” said Tom Manzo, CABIA president and founder in a statement to Fox Business, adding “It’s just another law that puts businesses in further jeopardy.”

According to Manzo, nearly 10,000 fast food jobs have been cut across the state since Newsom signed Assembly Bill 1287 into law last year.

“You can only raise prices so much,” he said. “And you’re seeing it. People are not going to pay $20 for a Big Mac. It’s not going to happen.

CAIOBA took out this full page ad in Thursday’s USA Today which includes mock “obituaries” of various fast food chains.

As we noted in April, thanks to the combination of inflation and minimum wage hikes driving up operational costs for businesses across the US, Larger chains raised prices but have also been forced to reduce employees and labor costs through automation, but the layoffs are just getting started.

“Restaurants are struggling to stay above water, and Democrats just threw them an anvil,” California Assembly Republican leader James Gallagher told FOX Business. “We warned Democrats this new mandate would cost jobs. They ignored us, and here we are with the highest unemployment rate in the country poised to get even worse.”

The “digital options” that many fast food franchises are referring to are automated ordering systems as well as robot workers which are slowly but surely becoming more cost effective than human laborers.  At least one fast food location in California is testing a fully robotic restaurant with no human workers.

On the other side of the window, fast food has gone up an absurd amount. As FinanceBuzz noted recently:

  • From 2014 to 2024, average menu prices have risen between 39% and 100% — all increases that outpace inflation during the given time period (31%).
  • McDonald’s menu prices have doubled (100% increase) since 2014 across popular items — the highest of any chain we analyzed.
  • Popeyes follows McDonald’s with an 86% increase, and Taco Bell is third at +81%.
  • Menu prices at Subway and Starbucks have risen by “just” 39% since 2014 — the lowest among chains we studied. These are also the only restaurants where prices have risen by less than 50%.

McDevastating.

Mission accomplished (it isn’t incompetence, but premeditated criminality).

All roads lead to depop – including fast “food” itself . . . it’s a looong con, but it’s in its endgame.

These folks will become wards of the state, with a .gov basic income, as begun in the mid-Sixties, via LBJ’s Great Society.

Its not a bug , it’s a feature !

The Global War on Food

”..we’re being led to believe that food production is somehow evil and must be scaled back for the good of the planet. After all, control the food and you control the people.”

Trust that syyence.

” Now it’s being hinted that cooking food itself is bad. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), a quarter of all air pollution comes from cooking food. “If you can smell it, there’s a good chance it’s impacting air quality,”

” Let’s consider the plethora of mysterious disasters impacting food production facilities. The latest is a fire at one of the nation’s largest free-range egg facilities that killed millions of chickens. But this is just one of a long, long, long list of similar disasters that are destroying, one by one, the business of feeding humans.”

Of course, the potential for bird flu leaping to cows is putting the dairy industry in the crosshairs at a time when America’s dairy cow replacement inventory is at a two-decade low.

And who can forget the disastrous collapse of Sri Lankan agriculture after the government forcibly scaled back the use of non-organic fertilizer?

To top it off, did you know the United Nations is working with banks to destroy the American farming industry?

The purpose of a system is what it does (POSIWID) is a systems thinking heuristic coined by Stafford Beer, who observed that there is “no point in claiming that the purpose of a system is to do what it constantly fails to do.” The term is widely used by systems theorists, and is generally invoked to counter the notion …

The purpose of a system is what it does – Wikipedia

You’re welcome.

~ A total non-geek, old techno-retard

P.S.: POSIWID means, it was designed to do exactly what it has done.

Like the fedgov .edu system:

“Independent study, community service, adventures and experience, large doses of privacy and solitude, a thousand different apprenticeships — the one-day variety or longer — these are all powerful, cheap, and effective ways to start a real reform of schooling. But no large-scale reform is ever going to work to repair our damaged children and our damaged society until we force open the idea of “school” to include family as the main engine of education. If we use schooling to break children away from parents — and make no mistake, that has been the central function of schools since John Cotton announced it as the purpose of the Bay Colony schools in 1650 and Horace Mann announced it as the purpose of Massachusetts schools in 1850 — we’re going to continue to have the horror show we have right now.”

I remember the day I learned to read. I already knew the alphabet and my father bought me a subscription to Dr. Suess books. They came in the mail in a cardboard box with a pull tab and the first one was Hop on Pop. The cover was orange and it featured two smiling little furry bear-like children standing on their Dad’s stomach. I couldn’t wait for my father to come home and read it to me and I still remember sitting on his lap while he read it to me aloud and during that time something clicked. Before long, I was actually reading the words and that was that.

That knowledge changed my life. The world opened for me in a way that allowed me to understand the thoughts and experiences of others as if they were my own.

Discovering how to listen to your conscience is almost the same kind of experience. At some point you go from being a kind of illiterate to so much that goes on in the world, the next it becomes as clear as day. Things like physiognomy, intuition, POSIWID are all easy to identify subsets of this skill that allow us to identify things clearly when they appear, either due to narrative or some societally imposed custom (never judge a book by it’s cover), as something else.

Most people know what a gut feeling is, what people mean when they say that they have a feeling about something, but most people have been conditioned not to be prejudiced because it is morally wrong, rather than a natural and useful instinct.

There is nothing inherently wrong with applying these instincts to our daily life regardless of current mores if it keeps us safe. Anything else seems counterintuitive.

McDevastating? Yes it is. What’s McDevastating is that government had to hurt these businesses instead of the population actually making healthy choices about what goes into their body, thereby sending a message that we don’t want this poisonous crap.

Good riddance.

I would guess he meant to the people that worked there. This was supposed to improve their lives instead they now are without a job. I do agree it is all part of the plan to make everyone dependent on the government. The newly laid off will get unemployment compensation if they qualify, or welfare if they don’t.
But don’t worry about California, it seems to have an unlimited supply of idiot taxpayers that vote for this shit. Like feeding, housing, and free medical care. Like $60,000 tents for the homeless and $20,000 for high tech toilets that all failed the first week. And California is going to solve climate change all on their own by banning everything useful.

So Mcdonalds does not have to pay its share of social security for the employee. Everything will be done with ordering through a screen and paying with a card. Cuts out the employee and reduces everything to maybe three employees working behind a bullet-proof glass. An advantage is there will be no extra napkins or ketchup racking up extra shrinkage to send out, possibly provoking a consumer into a chimp-out for the enjoyment of youtube watchers. Bread and circuses.

What California really has is perhaps 10 million phony voter registrations. I am beginning to believe it is possible Democrats have not actually won an election in many Blue states for decades.

The Democrats cheated for Hillary in 2016, but didn’t cheat big enough in the swing states so where shocked when Trump won on electorial votes. They learned their lesson and cheated big time in all swing states in 2020 so Biden would appear to win. They knew with Obama appointed Federal Justices the results could not be challenged. Still they feared Trump winning enough to entrap him on Jan. 6th. That false narrative out an end to election fraud claims.

If the public is allowing a low-wage paying (non living wage) service industry to dominate the domestic economy, i.e., fast food, retail, hospitality and others to continue without availing innovation and other venues that offer upward mobility and it being prevalent in the workforce and throughout economic landscape, such as the lack of inspiring jobs and evolving industry and the atmosphere to expand, then they are acknowledging that they are functioning in more of a Third World domestic context and these problems are inherent to that. If a large sector of the population has to rely on these types of jobs in order to maintain their place in the workforce and barely manage to pay basic necessities, then these misaligned issues need to be remedied, or become fully Third world.

Why is it always a situation of the government having to create jobs, and the people having to wait on them to do so? This sounds fundamentally stunted and backwards. The reasons should be articulated as to why the populace feel they can’t and won’t do this, then perhaps local militias can use the research for community organizing purposes in an outreach designed to assist in creating alternatives. Things like this would incline individuals towards more local management of these issues and less reliance on layers of bureaucracy, the interference of which would likely ruin any initiatives anyway.

Just remember the rule of those on top in a capitalist society that created the need for labor unions More for me and as little as possible for you !
The cost of supplies goes up the price of the product produced , manufactured , assembled or built goes up $$$
BUT : When the cost of labor (employees needed) goes up OH MY GOD WE ARE OUT OF BUSINESS !
Typically the demands for higher wages comes from necessity due to economic pressures induced by failures in the monetary system thanks to deficit spending by those who control taxation or what now amounts to organized theft as government largess benefits those in or dependent upon government theft
If minimum wage kept up with WALL STREET & GOVERNMENT BONUS AND SALARIES IT WOULD BE ABOUT $85 bucks per hour not $20 !
This however would require reality in overall living expenses increased by True inflation information. Medical, housing food transportation real figures affecting real people daily not what a bunch of leftist overpaid government parasitic wonks that produce NOTHING pull out of their combined assholes
