SUNDAY MORNING CLASSICS ON TBP

A collaboration of: “The Classic Music Mafia”
Anthony Aaron, and Steve C.

Every Sunday morning we present selections for our TBP family to enjoy.

We present symphonies, ensembles, quartets, octets, etc.

Not all of our music is strictly ‘classical’. We may stray a little, but we strive to make all of our selections ‘classy’.

We offer tips on proper ‘symphony etiquette’ and even some selections that are a bit light-hearted and fun aimed at a younger audience. Those pieces will be so designated, and might be a good way to introduce kids to a world of music that they might not have been exposed to or think of as old and ‘stuffy’.

A full symphony will run as long as it will. We don’t want to cut a symphony short. However, we also include some shorter pieces that we try to keep under fifteen minutes in length. You can sample each and hopefully find one or more that pleases you.

We hope that you enjoy our Sunday selections.

Steve C.

Tchaikovsky: Swan Lake – The Kirov Ballet

This is the whole ballet, so if you like ballet, this is for you.

If you’re like me and don’t particularly like it, you can just listen to the beautiful music, and it is quite beautiful, and go and do something else while you listen.

So here it is:

In this production of the best loved classical ballet ‘Swan Lake’ the naturally gifted Yulia Makhalina dances the challenging role of Odette/Odile while the part of Prince Siegfried is danced by Igor Zelensky. This classic Kirov production includes the familiar happy ending in the final act where Siegfried fights and ultimately defeats the evil magician von Rothbart and at dawn is reunited with Odette.

Nancy Sinatra & Lee Hazlewood “Summer Wine” on The Ed Sullivan Show

Thanks, again for bringing this wonderful respite from the doom porn of the 24/7 news cycle. It is a highlight of the week for me.

Steve – Here is a Nancy Sinatra song that I enjoyed much more than “Boots” and was also on Ed Sullivan’s show. He really had some talent come across his stage.

Mahler: Symphony No. 1

Gustav Mahler (1860-1911) composed his Symphony No 1 from the end of 1877 to early 1888. It was a symphonic poem’ in 4 movements.

It was originally performed in 1889.

Mahler: Piano Quartet in A Minor

Mahler composed this piece when he was 17, though most of it has been lost. This is what remains … his only chamber music composition.

Paul Horn: Mahabhutas

From the album Inside the Taj Mahal

Keith Jarrett — Over the Rainbow (Tokyo 1984)

I saw Keith Jarrett in concert once in LA … never forgot how beautifully he played – or, rather, improvised …

This is an old standard …

A couple of submittals of a variation on a theme.
Just a choir, and no strings.

All strings here, and no choir.

I know I have put this up before, but it is so special as to be worth repeating over and over.
A day without Yuja smoking the keyboard is like a day without sunshine!
A close watch of the hands and the face to go with her dress! What a performance!
