Viral TikTok Boat Challenge Leads To “Instant Death”

Should Christians Scoff at 'Darwin Award' Deaths? The Answer Isn't Simple or Obvious - The Stream

Via ZeroHedge

A dangerous TikTok challenge has gone viral as summer heats up in the Northern Hemisphere. The trend involves people jumping off the rear of a moving boat. Tragically, this viral challenge has already claimed the lives of four individuals in Alabama.

“The four that we responded to when they jumped out of the boat, they literally broke their neck and, you know, basically an instant death,” Capt. Jim Dennis of the Childersburg Rescue Squad told NBC News. The deaths have occurred in the last six months.

Dennis said, “I think people, if they’re being filmed on camera, I think they’re more likely to do something stupid because they want to show off in front of their friends for social media.”

Alabama officials are seeing people of all ages attempt this dangerous stunt on the Chinese video-sharing platform.

Experts with the Sea Tow Foundation, a nonprofit organization focused on boater safety, warned, “Hitting the water from a moving boat is like hitting concrete from jumping multiple stories up.”

Experts said even wearing a life jacket while jumping out of a moving boat would not prevent instant death because people are hitting the water at high rates of speeds with soaring risks of breaking their necks.

When you wonder how it’s possible that so many people would voluntarily wear a compliance muzzle, and stand in line to get injected over and over again just because their tv told them to, just read this article.

I’ve eaten it plenty of times while water skiing.
I guess God was protecting me from harm.

Depends on the angle and the speed, I guess.

How so? I have fallen off a boat directly into the churn behind the boat. No difference from hitting still water from my experience.

Same here. I think I hit a piece of debris in the water while whipping outside wake. Flew through the air and cracked ribs on landing. If I had no lifejacket I could or would have sliced through the water and been fine.

Slammed into the bank one day when I was showing off doing one of my famous shore landings. Broke my tail bone which made for a long 4 hour drive home.

Meh.

Let me know the next time you’re going to jump out of a fully loaded C-130 carrying 140 pounds of equipment in a T-10 while 600 other guys are doing the same thing, in the dark, over a DZ the size of a parking lot.

We lost 6 men in a single jump at Ft Irwin in ’82

Humans do crazy things for the thrill of it. Sometimes tragedy ensues, even when you’re well trained. End of story.

NNNOOOOOOO We must have more laws to protect the stupids from themselves. Make sure you wear your seatbelt too at all times when in the car. Wearing a helmet in the car too is advisable.

Edited: it is sarcasm in case you can’t tell

Not in BC.

I left my spare helmet in a friends car once. Being a bit of a goofball, he wore it while driving. Got pulled over and ticketed for wearing it while driving.

Have to wear a seatbelt and are forced to have airbags. But any extra protection you decide to wear? NO! Pay the fine.

And people are still thankful they live in a ‘free’ country. SMH.

Thats funny…. but not.

Once the commies here in british communista realize that people gladly wore a face diaper everywhere and get multiple jabs, its only a matter of time before they decide its better for us to wear a helmet driving too.

I still see people wear’n face diapers where I live, in a small community.

This happened long ago when I was in my 20s.

It was one early indication to me that I was not living in a sane or logical society.

Have to wear a helmet on a motorcycle, but shorts, muscle tee shirt and flip flops? Just fine.

And yet, it is illegal to wear a helmet in a convertible. But these new three wheel sporty things? Seems you HAVE to wear a helmet. Unless you have a turban. Then you don’t have to wear a helmet at all. (but we are all equal regardless of race and religion, right?)

Irish had a funny vid up recently.
Shows a midget working out on a small, black floor mat.
Next scene, a large adult male looks down, bends down, picks up the supposed mat, and with a mild scowl, promptly puts on what’s really a black face mask.

“Hitting the water from a moving boat is like hitting concrete from jumping multiple stories up.”

Really?

Hit the water many, many times at 35+mph myself. Waterski, tube, water glider, falling off moving boat.

Never hurt other than a bit winded from impact.

Now I have broken a bone falling from 15′ onto pavement. Can tell you, it is not the same as hitting water at speed.

The people breaking their necks must have been very fragile folk.

When I first learned how to stand up on a surfboard, I did not yet know how to ‘turn’.

Straight down the face of a 12 foot wave at San Onofre, speed wobbles then wipeout into the water.

Two cracked ribs later, I managed to somehow make it back to shore without drowning.

I figure I was going maybe 15-20 mph going down that wave….
The water? Was like hitting pavement.

Not horrific, innovative, or messy enough. One should only be eligible for a Darwin (dis)honourable mention for this method of self-elimination.

We need a law banning motorboats. CO2, ya know.
Daredevils can jump off rowboats, canoes, rafts, and inner tubes..
No farting, though.

The expression my old man would say to us kids when we were growing up in the ’50s was, ‘Monkey see, monkey do.’

Seems to fit here in this latest episode of contestants for the Darwin Awards …

Something doesn’t smell right with this story. Back in the 70s when I was in high school we used to jump out of a ski boat all the time – no big deal. I never heard of anyone breaking their neck from wiping out water skiing, tubing or jumping out of a boat . . . NEVER.

Somehow, plunging into the endless stream of the Internet, I stumbled upon a bright star – TikTok blogger Katie Sigmond. Her videos quickly won my liking for their authenticity and creativity. After reading her biography and also find more, I learned that she became popular thanks to her sharp reflections on everyday life and her talent for bringing positivity to the moments of many people. Her content has become a dose of inspiration for me and a reminder of the importance of sharing joy even in small life details.
