“A coward dies a thousand times before his death, but the valiant taste of death but once. It seems to me most strange that men should fear, seeing that death, a necessary end, will come when it will come.”― Julius Caesar
“I cannot escape death, but at least I can escape the fear of it.” —Epictetus
“It is not death that a man should fear, but rather he should fear never beginning to live.” —Marcus Aurelius
“Walking around soulless, empty, and cowardly…”
I would argue that’s been happening long before Covid. No conviction, no passion from the majority. Most don’t know what to believe. They simply float through life without purpose, then die.
You just described a large percentage of American people.
Consider including the other traits of our current population.
NEVER ASSUME INTELLIGENT, MALICIOUS MALICE AFORETHOUGHT,
WHEN SIMPLE STUPIDITY, NEGLIGENCE AND INCOMPETANCE WILL DO.
Works both ways though. Never assume it wsas stupidity either. There are plenty with “INTELLIGENT, MALICIOUS MALICE AFORETHOUGHT”.
Plan for INTELLIGENT, MALICIOUS MALICE AFORETHOUGHT.
If it is really SIMPLE STUPIDITY, NEGLIGENCE AND INCOMPETENCE,
you will be more than adequately prepared.
For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.
– Matthew 16:25
Thanks for that Didius!
Well played.
People are so afraid to die that they are already dead.
Francis- Thanks for posting, the devil wants the souls of humanity and will get them even through trickery. I still find it hard to believe so many people were so afraid of a mild flu, so afraid they sacrificed themselves to the dark side.
It’s done and it can’t be undone by mere humans. This community is here for a reason, thanks again.
This whole thing has made me reassess/reconsider who I want in my life. For the most part, not a lot has changed (fortunately). That being said, there were always ‘good people’ that I’ve kept at arms length (out of instinct I suppose). I can now see the deeper reason as to why I did that. Sometimes your gut is just right.
Amen.
When people stopped providing for themselves and then broke up the multi-generational family unit, every connection to death was erased. It went from being an integral part of life to a monster under the bed.
There is nothing to fear from death.
One step further HSF, it’s Sunday! You know who!
Death may be the final fractal. But there’s plenty fraternal fractals between entry & exit. Every monkey see do lo peer pressure givin’ way to hi peer pressure on the mweteorological conformity map is a death. But thru some kind of inverted accounting the conformists embezzle stayin’ alive, cuz their quantity theory of life models that if ya got enough monopoly money, you can keep meeting margin calls, & ya don’t ever hafta be wrong about your hemorrhaging-losing trade.
When I was going through cancer treatment and felt like I was at deaths door after losing 60 pounds in 7 weeks the thought of dying or the fear of dying never entered my mind. My only thought was if it happens I can say , Damn I had a good time” .
When my grandfather was in his last stages of his life he looked at me and said,” Grandson,I’ve had a good life. I’ve had two wonderful wives,a good family, a good job and a nice home. I survived WWII and come home to a country that was ripe with prosperity . I’ve had a good life” .
When the end comes I want to be able to say that as well.
