Sally Fourth

From Slope of Hope:

The Fourth Turning is part of the required reading here on Slope, and it is featured on my Recommended Books page.

I have read and highlighted the book many times, and I’ve written about it on Slope on a few occasions. I have to trot it out once more, however, since I was surprised at yet another prophecy. As a recap, here is how the important Chapter 10 begins, and keep in mind, this book was published in 1997. Before Covid. Before Trump. Before 9-11. Hell, back then, Zuckerberg was a pimply 13 year old kid. So a lot has happened since then:

Of course, the “spark” they mentioned was, in my opinion, the terrorist attacks on 9/11. Incidentally, I find it rather remarkable that they toss out the offhanded “….trivial as a Tea Party” remark when, in fact, just such a political movement would take place starting in early 2009.

On the very next page, they start to hypothesize about some events which might take place during the Fourth Turning, which they believed that the time would be roughly from 2005 to 2025 or so. Let’s look:

What’s astonishing is that they offer up these conjectures very sheepishly and even declare that “obviously” none of these things would actually happen, but they were merely offering some some ideas about the character of potential “sparks” and not actually predicting anything specific.

Yet what’s remarkable is how accurate these were. The first bullet point refers to a global terrorist group blowing up an airliner. I’d say the use of multiple airliners to blow things up 9/11 by the global terrorist group Al Qaeda is pretty damned close to that. The second bullet point refers to the shutdown of the federal government due to budget and debt quarrels. Well, we have:

It was the third bullet point that prompted me to create this post: “The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announce the spread of a new communicable virus. The disease reaches densely populated areas, killing some. Congress enacts mandatory quarantine measures.” Ummm, ring any bells?

The book goes on to offer some ideas about what’s coming.

Personally, I think the disasters-to-come are waiting in the wings, and that countless trillions that have been used to plaster over reality have worked so far, but when it stops working, Holy Lord. The words “horrific panic” in the excerpt above capture the zeitgeist of the future quite nicely.

I stopped trying to predict anything after Trump got elected. No way anybody saw that one coming.

You saw Trump becoming President in 2000? What about in 2005? Or 2009? When exactly did you know Trump was going to be President?

In 2016. I drove from just east of Seattle in Washington state to the outskirts of Chicago and saw thousands of Trump signs, not one Hillary sign or bumper sticker. He was filling stadiums everywhere while Hillary was heaping scorn on the electorate and only getting handfuls of paid-off union members to show up at “rallies.” She ran the most incompetent campaign in US history. Specifically, I predicted Trump would win the election in the Rust Belt states, due to Podesta miscalculating the required voting machine pre-sets.

I was able to predict he would win against Hillary during the election too. Nobody could’ve predicted Trump being President a decade before he ran. There were discussions about the 4th turning for years on this site and not one person randomly said, “I think Trump will be President and the world will lose their mind over it”.

When they shut out Ron Paul in 2016, they made someone like Trump inevitable. When the polite well mannered, well spoken, rule playing, scandal free, populist was shut out by the media and his own “party”, the next step was the vulgar populist who used the outrage of his statements to keep himself in the limelight and get his message across. If it hadnt been Trump it would have been someone like him.

And so because “they” never even assumed that would Happen … they, after he won, presented the worst case of Fake bullshit to ever come from media, TV and publicly opposed figures and has been actors. They tried to Crucify him, His name and his family, Never seen that ever, in American Politics, the vitriol was like a Babe Ruth hit out of the park. They tried and tried and because he wants to re run they will try again… see a Pattern, see the threat and see the actions of desperate people. He wanted to drain the Swamp but he had no real tools. He did however expose how deep the swamp goes. Hey what ever happened to Hunter Bidens Laptop, home movies and Ukrainian money trails… See the swamp is very deep but the critters in it continue to show themselves.

3030 Bill Nebraska

For Nebraska’s 520,851acres of federal land, the federal government paid about $1.3 million to Nebraska’s 93 counties. … Bill Gates, will gladly donate all his holdings to this worthy project. Ted Turner and the other oligarch should also follow. Finally, the Chinese are buying a lot of land.

The PAUSE bill Colorado

Initiative 16, a section of which is referred to as “Wilbur’s Law,” adds livestock and fish to the state’s animal cruelty law and redefines what constitutes a “sexual act with an animal,” including practices often used in breeding and animal husbandry. It also requires that slaughtering of livestock only occur if an animal has lived a quarter of its natural lifespan — estimated at 20 years for a cow, for example — which would vastly change current practices, considering cattle are often butchered well before they turn 3.

Oregon no-slaughter bill

Oregon Bill IP13 would criminalize raising food animals in the state and reclassify animal husbandry practices as “sexual assault.” This bill specifies that animals can only be eaten after dying of natural causes (at which point, aged/diseased meat is no longer fit for human consumption).
