Thanks. I had a friend who lived in Worcester who had schizophrenia. Was hit and killed in a cross walk, 10 years later no one saw nuthin.
She was a mother, and prior to her diagnosis, a very productive member of society. But eventually her self-medicating caught up to her and she went into treatment for alcoholism.
Her schizophrenia was primarily auditory in nature, she was non-violent and could live alone. The medication she was on was horrible, gave her chronic dry-mouth which resulted in tooth loss, and as you can imagine, the did not do much for her self-esteem.
Because she was not able to work, she was on SSDI and MassHealth, who quite frankly gave not one shit about her actual, physical health, so her missing teeth just went untreated, which in turn led to poor eating habits (if you can’t chew, it’s very hard to eat).
I met her psychiatrist a few times, and she seemed like a pretty nice person, but completely over worked and had way too many patients like my friend.
All they wanted was them to be med-compliant and to not be a problem to the police or the hospitals. Other than that, no one gave a rat’s ass.
She lived in a really horrible rooming house in the worst neighborhood of Worcester. I remember sitting outside on her front steps one June afternoon, and seeing to gentlemen of color run down her street shooting at each other. Broad daylight.
There were instances of men trying to take advantage of her good nature, and if I saw it I stepped in, but I wasn’t there all the time.
For the most part though, local residents kind of looked out for her and each other, so she was pretty safe.
So while I am very well aware that a lot of mental illness is drug induced, there is also a lot of drug use that is mental-illness induced.
The meds they give these people are usually awful, have really bad side effects, and make them zombies one way or the other.
Many do not have families which can watch out for them, manage their finances, and help diffuse problems with landlords and neighbors. Even the med-compliant often struggle in day to day activities and can have arguments and friction with neighbors simply because the meds don’t solve everything. Many mentally ill have odd habits, or hoard, or keep weird hours. Some don’t bathe regularly. These things all pose problems for neighbors.
Bottom line is we treat the mentally ill in this country pretty badly, and as long as they aren’t “bothering us” we just ignore them. It’s a sad life, lonely, unproductive, and empty for many of these people. No wonder many turn to street drugs just to experience something.

Most people are just completely uneducated about mental illness. This makes them afraid of something, because the mind will manufacture a worst crisis than reality (witness Covid-1984).

Just to set the record straight, I don’t think all mental illness is caused by outside forces. However if you know someone who starts hearing voices, or thinks someone is following them and coming in their house, drones spying on them, etc. (especially if an older person) it’s time to look into whether they are being gang stalked and/or subjected to being targeted.
I believe this will become more and more apparent as it’s already been in soft disclosure concerning the Chinese embassy, attacks in the DC area, frontline doctors being gang stalked, most probably Mercola, too.
However normal people have been reporting the torture for a long time now.
We now have overwhelming evidence the medical, and especially psychological, professions are corrupt or, at best, programmed.
There are new theories coming out, and a lot of medical myths, associated with schizophrenia especially.
Remember they have already admitted using this tech in parks, stadiums and airports to manipulate crowds.
Not far fetched. MKUltra did exist. No telling what experimental treatments may be going on in today’s world. Oh wait!

Stucky missed his opportunity for the challenge of the debate the other day. The workforce is spiritually full of decay and hazzard prone for numerous reasons.
Some examples about working in the corporate subsidized system which benefits the untransparent elite:
Firefighters responding to drug overdoses frequently.
Working in long-term care and watching nurses escorted out of facilities by police for stealing narcs.
Expected to be trained not to brush the hair of women in memory care, even if they asked (even if this is the reason why a service position is selected) bc staff are burned out.
Having a geriatric patient report caregivers refuse to assist them bc of what one group of ppl did to another group.
Report of caregiver removing clock from wall bc patient uses it to ask for pain meds too frequently. Caregiver not suspended.
These are not even the bulk of multicultural examples of spiritual decay in the work force.
Regardless how hardworking an individual is, the workforce and work place is a hell zone.

I used to work in a state run chronic psyche ward, after transferring from the adjacent mental retardation facility circa 1979. The state job paid just over minimum wage (around 3.79 per hr) while attending college. Schizophrenia is a heart break for all involved, even as a direct staff member, you could interact with some intelligent, nice looking people; but even with medication, it was as though those afflicted were grasping a rope that was always in danger of slipping away. Invariably, most that were discharged would return to the hospital. The state facility was closed many years ago, I don’t know what has taken its place.

I was blessed growing up and never realized it. We had about 30 kids in our suburban neighborhood within five years of my age, and we had a grand time. Sports, forts, and titty squeezing were every day activities, and I thought it was that way for everyone. One by one we grew up and went to work or college, and moved on , although many of us remained close. One dear friend started having problems around age 23. Suddenly, this intelligent and diligent human being started to deteriorate. At first, I thought it was the usual girl problem, or work problem…but it was something much different. My dear friend was suffering from paranoid schizophrenia, something I knew nothing about. This fine and decent young man had his life taken away from him by this terrible disease. He was put on antipsychotic medicines which lead to him having multiple “mini” strokes, he is now in a care facility. Terrible things happen to us humans, but we must never forget to be kind, and forgive.
Such a frightening condition, as you point out anecdotally, it usually presents in late teenage or early adulthood years.

When I was going to university in the mid 90s I did a lot of work with people who had mental illnesses – mostly schizophrenia. I always felt like it was handled wrong. Back then there wasn’t a hell of a lot of compassion for those who had it or understanding of the disorder itself.
Not sure much has changed.
My gut says that as research with psychedelics begins to expand, and big pharma gets kicked in the nuts, that we’ll find out there are natural remedies to a lot of these sorts of things.
I guess we’ll see.

He moved from Michigan to Minnesota because he believed those voices would cause harm, not only to himself, but to his family. Even at a young age, I felt the lack of empathy and compassion toward him. I hope times have changed, and I hope your loved one is getting the treatment that is right for them.
