New York Yankees vs. Philadelphia Phillies

There is one thing that will never change. Philly fans will always talk trash. I remember watching a guy with a NY Rangers jersey get thrown down the steps at a Flyers game at the old Spectrum. We all clapped.

Hamels, Lidge and Howard are coming up small.

I thought Philly would be the hard nose tought team because that's what they're known for, in fact it's the opposite, they're going out like lambs. Once rivera goes in why do they even bother playing, call the game so we can go to bed.

We should all be so lucky to have a "skeezer" like this in our life.  Jealous, perhaps?

There are a lot of good looking hookers, Stuck.  The guy left his family.  He is a loser who happens to be able to hit a baseball - but maybe not as well as he does when he's sticking needles in his ass.  $27 million a year is a lot for 30 home runs.

Stop it - A-Rod has never won a fight in his life.  Varitek kicked his ass and he's learned never to try it again.  He has 2 hits in the series, and last night's was due to Lidge not being able to throw the slider.  The Yankees have purchased a 3-1 lead.  All we can hope for is that all that is evil in the world does not prevail, and the Phils come back for the victory.  Should the Yankees win, it would make 2009 one of the worst years in human history.

I did leave out the part where he sat in front of the cameras and talked about how big his hit was.  Whatever, he's on the winning side for now.  He's as good as any steroid-using player in history.

A-Rod is one of the greatest home run hitters ever. Barry Bonds hit his 500th home run at age 36. A-Rod did it at age 32.  Barring injury, A-Rod has a very real chance of being the greatest home run hitter in the history of the game.  Hopefully, it will be done as a Yankee.

Steroids do NOT make a player into a home run hitter!!  Steroids did NOT turn A-Rod into a home run hitter.  He used steroids for a short period of time .. 2001-2003.  He already had 400+ homers.  He doesn't use them now. It takes a LOT of skill, strength, bat speed, eye-hand coordination, etc.  A-Rod has all these attributes -- whether you want to admit it or not.  But, if it make you feel better to rant what a sucky player he is, go ahead.  But, statistics will prove you wrong.

Argument denied.  You have no idea how long A-Rod was using steriods.  He obviously has lied about it in the past.  Steroids give players unfair advantages by allowing them to recover from injuries, games and workouts much quicker than non-users.  They also make players stronger than they would be without them.  Look at the home run records - 2 60-home run seasons in history, and then Sammy Sosa does it 3 times.  Give me a break.  Statistics prove me right.  Since the steroid epidemic was exposed along with Bonds' fraudulent 74 home runs and McGwire's 70 fraudulent home runs and all of the 60-home run seasons, the home run totals have returned to historic levels.  Pujols led the majors in home runs with 47 this year.  You can rant on with the bogus defense of A-Fraud, but statistics prove you wrong.

A-Rod is among the steroid-using greats along with Bonds, McGwire and Sosa. 

Basically, I agree with your stats.  Steroids makes an already great home run hitter even more prolific.  But, you MUST have the skills to begin with, and A-Rod has those.  In other words, you can't take a 5 home run per year player and turn him into a 40 home run per year player simply because he takes steroids. It just doesn't work that way.

Anyway, you can be pretty damn sure A-Rod doesn't take steroids any more. First, there's random drug testing. Second, he's not that big an idiot to risk $200+ million.  Third, he has a pretty hot babe. Steroids shrinks your nuts and I don't think she'd put up with that.

Fourth, and most importantly, just look at his physique. Then look at Bonds, MsGuire, and Sosa.  McGuire's arms looked like Schwarzennegger's. Bonds' head is the size of a Volkswagon! Compare Bonds' current pics to when he played in Pittsburg ... two different people alltogether. That's what happens when you use steroids for a long time.

A-Rod doesn't look anything like that ... and has never looked like that. He used them for a short period of time, and even then it was used sparingly, otherwise he would have looked a LOT differently ... all bulked up and with tiny nuts.  I can not verify the size of his nads. However, the rest of the physical evidence points to my conclusion.

If steroids did not enhance performance, why would one take them?  It's a shame that a guy like A-Rod would find it necessary, but since he did, his accomplishments are suspect.  Also, don't forget that he stopped by Madonna's (50-year old skeezer) before his latest babe.

Rob, I never said steroids don't enhance performance. They do! Reread my posts. What they don't do, is make a non-home run hitter into a bona-fide home run hitter.

Why do they take it?  High competition, high stakes, millions of dollars on the line, ego, the quest to be the best no matter what .... many reasons, I suppose.

It is a shame, as you say.  Short term gain for long term pain ... lots of nasty side effects down the road. 

And it's epidemic; cycling, swimming, baseball, weight lifting, track ... everywhere and at all levels. Yup. Damn shame ....

Sports is a business. The Yankees are hardly the only tean in professional sports who "buy" their way to a Championship. That's the way the game is played. If you'd rather watch the game played by those who simply play because they love the game ........ may I suggest Little League?

The Yankees spend 50% more than any other team.  They can do this because of the New York market.  If there was a salary cap, as there is in every other sport, the Yankees wouldn't be playing for the championship.
