3rd Annual 4th of July Open House

It’s only 3 weeks away. Come on up.

Guest Post by Hardscrabble Farmer

Pack your bags. Gas up the car. Bring your friends.

We’re on again for another exciting, relaxing, stress-free get together with great food, good company, beautiful views, pleasant weather and plenty to catch up on.

This year will feature more food, live music, activities for all ages followed by a fireworks show after dark, and a massive a bonfire in celebration of 244 years of non-stop American fun. This is an all-ages event with plenty of things to do for children as well as adults.

There is ample room for camping for those who are interested as well as plenty of local lodging from B&B style accommodations to resort hotels and lake shore house rentals if you want to turn it into a longer stay. The Region is one of the loveliest spots in New England with both a ski mountain and a glacier lake for plenty of things to keep you busy if you decide to arrive early or depart late.

Gates open at 9am July 3rd for visits as we set up, and end when the last visitors depart in the early morning hours of July 5th.

Because of the events of the last year, we are offering a pay as you like option- We only need to know that you are coming and how many there will be so that there is plenty for everyone. If you are able contribute what you can and if it is a financial burden, don’t sweat it, everyone is welcome.

You can either call or email to confirm or if you just want some further details- and for those of you who have attended in the past, please share your experiences here so that people know just what a great time everyone has at the farm.

See you there!

Are you joking? Shouldn’t it be July 14th? Bastille Day?

“The first step: Don’t be anxious. Nature controls it all. And before long you’ll be no one, nowhere—like Hadrian, like Augustus. The second step: Concentrate on what you have to do. Fix your eyes on it. Remind yourself that your task is to be a good human being; remind yourself what nature demands of people. Then do it, without hesitation, and speak the truth as you see it. But with kindness. With humility. Without hypocrisy.” ― Marcus Aurelius

Do you always hear the quotes of others in your head?

Hardscrabble Farmer
Hardscrabble Farmer

I wish.

I do try and meditate on them every morning in the hopes that I can follow their direction.

blaine
blaine

Is it “them” that you pray to for a steady hand when shooting a pig? You seem to worship “them” which I find unusual, none of my business of course and nobody “deserves” anything, especially me.
Rev 3:16 comes to mind every time I see it.

Ken31
Ken31

You seem to be far astray from the path. What is it you mean internally by worship and prayer? “Them” is Meditations which is a guide to finding wisdom. I have never heard a religious critique of it.

Rev is pretty useless without understanding internally the meaning of the Gospels. HF speaks Truth, but he is a lot further along than me.

The beauty to me is that there is only the journey.

blaine
blaine

You see truth and wisdom, I see the musings of self important men sold religiously.
For it is written: The truth is the word and God is of a jealous nature.
Interesting you pronounce yourself holy to judge me “far astray from the path” as HSF has also proclaimed his proficiency for quickly judging the path of a persons soul.
Beneath your purple robes is great pride hiding what I wouldn’t care to speculate.
“Nature controls it all, and before long you’ll be no one, nowhere” – satanic gaia worship bullshit, hard pass.

Ken31
Ken31

I intended to do no such thing. I offered another view. I believe people need help learning how to help themselves, sometimes. Everyone has to figure out what that looks like for them, but when you see it, you want to share.

Mygirl....maybe

Oh lordy, got another self righteous dweeb spouting Bible verses while standing on his high horse telling all the sinners what a great guy he is. I daresay you can just blow it out your ass you pompous little twit.

blaine
blaine

By your own admission you are obese and homely, in dire need of a man and all that entails, I suggest lowering your standards greatly to see if that helps.
Good you make excuses to hide yourself in Texas as your hero would judge your physiognomy harshly.
“while standing on his high horse telling all the sinners what a great guy he is”- you just pulled that out of your fat ass as I did nothing of the sort, quite the opposite in fact.

Stucky

blaine, will you be at HF’s farm on the 4th?

While I appreciate fun plans for the future I honestly believe things will be so bad that this outing is not going to be a option, would be glad to be wrong.

what could go wrong!

I’ll make sure to dye my hair, what’s left of it, and get me a mustache!

Hmmmm…..,Rin,you got negged, could the reason be you are folically challenged?!

You will hate me on site with me gorgeous locks of long flowing hair!

Can you not just grow a mustache or hads the hair issue become that bad?!

RiNS

Gold eh! Mine is gray…

The hair thing for me ain’t too bad… yet. I was looking at some pictures of me from ten years ago just today. A definite progression that comes with age and yeah there was moar then for sure. Not that it matters cuz in the end it’s only just hair..

Well I’ll promise right now to try not to hate you while I buy you a beer..

A beer run does sound like fun…

then there is that border
might have to smuggle some

Yeah, that should work, I got a good feeling about how things are going to roll this year. Methinks that once the initial Xiden is done the seas will part and the Sun will shine… The controller will have no choice because in my travels now, out in the real world, a surprising number of folks who just months ago were on board will all this, do in a quiet moment tell me that this Rona hysteria is bullshit…

“It’s ruinous for the soul to be anxious about the future and miserable in advance of misery, engulfed by anxiety that the things it desires might remain it’s own until the very end. For such a soul will never be at rest— by longing for things to come it will lose the ability to enjoy present things.” — Seneca

Seneca was wise man…. still the problem with getting across the border is what waits on return. Hopefully by Summer things will improve. The restrictions that contribute to this anxiety are lifted that are now in place are then once and for all removed.

Well,I have always lived for today while preparing for tomm.

That said, unless a hail Mary pass ect. feel will be in a war zone by July, why I prepare and tonight listen to some good music while enjoying a few ales, feel these times will be unknown at least for a few years shortly, again, glad to be wrong and glad to smuggle a Rin across the northern New England border.

That said, still have access to a Peavy 12 channel board/a few monitors and half stacks ect.,not bad for smaller band playouts ect.Hell, need more music might try and get a few folks together and rebuild a new band.

I might ad/question what is a good donation, realize some are lucky to have two dimes to rub together at end of month while some doing OK,a admission price plus a few bucks ect. for those in tight financial nothing wrong asking for,in theory we are all in this together.

Ken31
Ken31

This makes organic causes of anxiety very tragic, but it is not speaking to those. I guess that’s when the serenity prayer kicks in.

Francis Marion

You can still cross the border.

RiNS

Can but the problem is the return…

I know a friend who works in Moncton and can’t cross a provincial border to go to their cottage on Amherst shore. It was just a few weeks ago that travelling from Antigonish County to Pictou was allowed. Before that, anyone caught roaming too far faced fines of more than 2000 dollars as promised in an email sent to me by Randy Delorey.

It’s crazy!

So any jaunts to anywhere are highly discouraged. It is moot in any case as I can’t go this year. The big problem is once I return I have to isolate for two weeks, that is even if the only thing I do is get permission to go to Moncton.

Maybe you folks can provide more info about traveling across Maine Border. I’m kinda unsure of the rules. Does one need proof of vax to gain entry?

Hopefully next year I can make it! For now, I’ll have to be happy looking from afar with a zoom lens…

2020 sucked, however the 4th of July at HSF’s was the 4th of July of your dreams.
The soirée was the best , conversation was scintillating, the participants excited to be free of all that 2020 was dumping on us in July.
I am in ……. since last year’s 4th I moved from the People’s Republic of Mass to a state that still allows freedom, I will chance the trip back into the belly of the beast to see the sun set from the freest front yard in America that day.
Also the food was spectacular……

Ever since the first invite, I have wanted to ride the bike across from Oregon to be there. I seriously doubt that this year will be any different, but if I could ever see clear to be there, I would leave a patch a hundred yards long as soon as I hit the asphalt.
Maybe so, but otherwise I am most definitely there in spirit.

So people still plan to celebrate Independence Day after Chowder Head and Knee Pads get inaugurated? I had no idea. I hope you have a good time.
I think I’m done celebrating anything American. Civic Nationalism seems pointless now.

gilberts
gilberts

Great quote.
With all due respect, however, do you intend to smile over the stolen election and the nation’s lurch to communism? Will maintaining the fiction America is still America steal anything from the thieves?

I feel like we’re enabling those thieves when we continue to honor the forms of the state they stole. We’re giving them more than smiles when we obediently honor the forms of the state. Those traditions and all aspects of civic nationalism, from honoring voting to the 4th to the military to believing in justice at the ballot box, one man one vote, American Exceptionalism, etc all seem pointless and invalid when the rulers can do whatever they want.

Continuing to support and promote these traditions seems wrong to me, because it creates tacit support for the corrupt govt.

In an alleged republic, that govt relies on the support of the governed. So withdrawing your support in any way possible seems like the only means left of non-violent resistance. I believe Uncola called it Irish Democracy on another thread.

Once Chowder Head is inaugurated, I’m going to go down and unregister to vote. If voting no longer matters, then voting no longer matters. At least I won’t have to worry about jury duty again. I hope millions of people follow my example, because nothing would better illustrate the illegitimate nature of this govt than to see 100% unanimous democrat communist support for whatever crooks they put up. Even the Soviets never had 100% support in their fake elections. They certainly never posted >100+ percent of the electorate voting like the democrat communists do. Voting harder next time won’t change the system. Faith in voting at this point is like Charlie Brown playing football with Lucy.

Still, I don’t have a replacement for the 4th. I’m wondering if there’s an alternate event I can support? Perhaps Constitution Day? Maybe I’ll change Independence Day to a memorial service and add funereal symbolism for the dead nation I loved? Instead of fireworks, I could don black and play dirges and talk about the history and traditions? I don’t celebrate dead relatives’ birthdays, so why celebrate my dead nation’s?

All that aside, wish I could celebrate something with you sometime. You seem like a very interesting person and I enjoy your writing.

Pogrom
Pogrom

Have you considered that in celebrating our heritage as a nation, we as a group of friends, family by choice, and Patriots are maintaining the bonds to that history and to each other?
If something good and true is going to rise from the ashes of our Republic then it will be people that hold on to those values and form a community. People like us.

I have never met any of the TBP in person (have been unable to make the cross country journey work no matter how much my wife and I wanted), that being said I feel like I
know them, and wouldn’t hesitate to help any of them. This connection is all from reading sharing and commenting, how much more of a community is built gathering in celebration of the traditions of our America?

Is there Irony in celebration of the 4th? Maybe, but perhaps in our celebration we will find and keep the courage to win our freedom again.

Come hell or high water, the wife and I will find our way there this year HSF.

gilberts
gilberts

Yes, I get it. But in celebrating national holidays and maintaining those American traditions, I think you are providing a visible, tacit approval to a criminal regime. Firing off firecrackers and going to parades on the 4th is as much a sign of support for the regime as it is for the Founders. They claim the same symbols and dates you do. Seems like we need alternatives to the official ones, lest your patriotism serve to bolster a criminal regime.

I think we need alternate symbols and dates, like perhaps Constitution day, something they don’t celebrate. Funeral arrangements for the 4th and celebration on September 17th? The original US flag, not the current one? The old Gaudens-style Lady Liberty, not the eagle seal? Also, no more of those cop flags. They’ve made it obvious who they serve.

Also, I think it’s important to revoke other tacit support, like supporting young people joining the military. No reason to serve a criminal regime. No reason to support overseas wars to profit the powers behind that criminal regime. Who wants to fight and die for Chowder Head, the PRC, and Google?

I really want to be there but only Heaven knows if I will. I promised my Father that I will through him a Fandango Royal for his 90th birthday that weekend (he’ll actually turn 90 on July 7th). He is recovering from a stroke that happened Christmas Eve and actually doing quite well as far as that goes. However, he’s been in stage 3 renal failure for over 2 years and I went with him to the doctor today for a stroke follow up and his kidney values are worse. He’s technically in end stage 4 failure now and his doctor doesn’t think his time here is long. We shall see, he’s been told by several doctors including me that he would have died many years ago if he was an average individual and not so damn tough and stubborn. Volga Deutsch…head hard like cabbage.

Going through the same thing with my Father. He’s been doing well with the dialysis (the at home version) though virtually a prisoner in his home due to the State restrictions in NJ. I’d do anything to get him to move up here, but my Sister is with him and as long as he has his books and music he seems to be okay.

Good luck with your Father and we’ll see you when we see you.

Sorry can’t be the day before but doing a fishing trip in Maine July1-3 and driving back to your place on the 4th (fishing = priority). Hope all is well, I will work instead of pay as I am now forcibly retired. The wife and kids won’t be able to attend as we are all in Virginia.

As an aside, my son just got the J@J shot an hour ago. Against my stern advise, but he is an adult and needs it to got on a school trip to Spain. I am physically sick about this and have actually been crying my eyes out. (not like me at all) No grandkids?

Also, if anyone needs a place to stay, I have a camp on an awesome pond 20 minutes away. running water but no shower (jump in the lake, lather up and jump back in, suck it up!!) Admin can probably give you my email.

The Oragutan

For many years my wife and I would take the 1st week of July off and spend July 1st here in Ottawa then drive down to the seacoast and spend a few days at a campground just 2 miles inland from Hampton Beach. It was always an enjoyable getaway; fireworks on the beach, lots to see and enjoy, and we vowed to return once (if) the Covid BS is over for good. HSF’s place just happens to be along the route; I’m familiar with that area and it is gorgeous country.

But alas, I’m in the same situation as RiNS, i.e. behind a never-ending, new Iron Curtain where the gulag is actually mandated to be your own home. But this relative newcomer to the TBP group will likely have to wait another year before considering a return journey south of the border again.

Will be there in spirit in 2021. In 2022, who knows? Fingers crossed.

That I’m only an hour and a half away should make this a no brainer. But as the host of our 4th festivities for decades I had passed the baton to my son and now my daughter, because she has a pool, has taken over.
I have 4 children and 9 grandchildren. Our celebration, depending on the year and the weather can have >100 people filtering in and out and I’m pretty sure most of them expect to see me. With some of them it’s the only time all year we see each other.
So I have a couple of questions.
If I decide to come up early on the 4th and leave sometime around 1 will I still get to meet some of my favorite TBPers?
If I do that will I be able to get my car out easily without inconveniencing anyone?
If I come up on the 3rd, and I’m more than willing to come to help set up, who and how many of the greats on TBP will be there. Yo/Arch you comin?
