Poll Finds Most People OK With Raising Taxes On Other People

Via The Babylon Bee

U.S.—In a stunning new poll, Americans indicated they are OK with a 70% marginal tax rate, indicating that since the hefty taxes would only apply to other people and not themselves, they are alright with the extremely high taxes.

“See, a lot of people think the proposed 70% tax rate is way too high,” said one woman in California. “But what they don’t understand is that the 70% is only on really rich people—in other words, not me. Let’s crank it up to 90, 100, or 110%  even. I don’t mind in the slightest.”

Americans all over the country suggested they are OK with a majority of the people voting to take a minority of the people’s money, as long as they are not part of that minority.

“I am a very generous person, so I believe everyone else needs to pay their fair share,” said Lyle Hartright of Maine. “Everyone that isn’t me, I mean.”

“These are stunning results,” said one analyst. “We always believed that Americans were generous, but we never knew how generous. To offer to raise taxes to 70% or more on other people just goes to show how much compassion people have.”

When my tax return was finished I did a back of the napkin calculation to take a wag at my daily tax burden; most of the big ticket items were included: federal, state, property, vehicle registration, sales. The result was $69.48 per day, each and every day, 365 days out of the year. I don’t want to refine the numbers, as the result would only go higher.

To put things in perspective, our grocery bill runs something like $12 per day, and I am a fairly big eater.

In the spirit of Babylon’s story, I vote for a 99% tax on all Congress creatures, just to start the ball rolling. Let ’em piss and moan; hell, they can serve one term and then go home. No need to debate term limits ever again.

We had a 90% higher tax rate in UK in the 1970s under socialism. Maggie Thatcher sorted that out with ‘public/private partnerships’ and we never looked back……..until now!

More illegals, more debt, more people without jobs. The perfect tag line for the left. Embedded dependence leads to the stupidity we are seeing. When you have nothing, destroy those that do. It is a great plan for maintaining ones power. People will rarely vote away free for the greater good. Great Job Dems.

I have a better idea. Ban anyone that has no property from voting. Ban anyone with more than 500k in assets from holding office.

I know, I know, pipe dream. Additionally, the people that really run this country aren’t in the elected class. They are the banking class and as such should be shunned and shamed.

He that hold my brother in the bondage of debt, has Satan for his father.
